Celestial Balance looks like a slow stream catching starlight. The sterling silver chain falls toward the center, pausing at bezel set moissanite stations along the way, then gathers into a cushion shaped halo ringed by 24 pavé moissanite. From there a slender drop continues down to a teardrop finial framed by 23 more. The result is a true Y necklace, a vertical line of light that draws the eye down and makes the neck look longer.
The principal stone is a 1 carat round brilliant moissanite measuring 6.4 mm (0.25 in) and graded VVS1, joined by 4.9 mm (0.19 in) round moissanite. VVS1 means any inclusions are so tiny they are very difficult to see even under 10x magnification. Moissanite has a more intense sparkle than diamond, thanks to its higher refractive index and more than double the dispersion, which throws flashes of rainbow fire as you move. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it is harder than sapphire and ruby, so it keeps its brilliance through everyday wear. Because moissanite is created in a lab rather than mined from the earth, it is conflict free, an ethical alternative to mined diamond. The pendant section measures 44 x 8.8 mm (1.73 x 0.35 in), long and slim, so it adds sparkle without bulk.
